Best Locations for Photographing Your Family in Lancaster
This is by no means an exhaustive list of the beautiful locations available in the south-central and south-eastern portion of Pennsylvania, BUT these are some of my favorites. It’s always a good day when we choose one of the following for your session! Read on below to see some of the best locations for photographing your family in the greater Lancaster area.
1. Studio Illume
Studio Illume opened back in 2021 and is located between Lancaster and Lititz, right off of Lititz Pike in the Village at Fiddler’s Green. This is where you find our client closet, full of SO many gowns and children’s clothing sizes newborn through 2T. I love to photograph lifestyle maternity and newborn sessions in this naturally lit, cozy space! It helps families with little ones to have a location where they don’t need to worry about the weather or making sure there’s a clean area of their home when they’ve just brought home a baby. This is where you may have seen my many floral sessions! I have hand-painted canvas backdrops available for a fine art look to your photographs.
2. Wildflower Lookout
This absolute gem of a location is situated in Ronks, PA and it has the most lovely sunsets and wildflower fields. They trim paths through the flowers to allow for people to walk through, which gives the BEST opportunities to look like you are in a flower-filled dream. Typically, the field is most colorful in June, though they also have another round of sunflowers late summer and wildflowers (cosmos) in early fall. There are both private fields and public fields to use for your session. The private ones are preferable, because this is a popular spot when it’s most beautiful.
3. Flowering Spring Orchards
If you hadn’t guessed at this point, I love to work with flowers during your portrait session. Flowering orchards never disappoint! For the timing to work out for this kind of session, we would need to keep an eye on how things are progressing through spring. Just a week can make a huge difference, BUT when we catch them at the right time – it’s stunning. Often you can choose white or pink blooms. It’s worth the trouble if you are planning a spring maternity session!
4. Harrisburg Capitol Building
The Harrisburg Capitol Building is a favorite for its beautiful architecture and city feel. The area is full of lightly colored stone buildings. It’s a great option if you like an old world feel without needing to venture into places like Old City, Philadelphia, where there’s a more going on and parking is harder to find.
5. Conestoga House and Gardens
Conestoga House and Gardens is a hidden gem, with old architecture and beautiful gardens. Built in the 1700s, the estate has an old-world feeling to it and so much elegance. They also allow for admission for special events and also just to wander the gardens to enjoy its many beautiful flowers.
